Sommer n'est plus

Raymond Sommer, nicknamed the Boar of the Ardennes, has left his mark in the history of motor racing. Twice champion of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a row, he asserts his authority over the top teams of his time. In 1939 he wins the motor racing championship title and is considered after the Second World War as the best French driver. He dies tragically on 10th September, 1950, at the Grand Prix of Cadours in Haute-Garonne as a result of an accident. We can see him here on the International Grand Prix Car Race of Perpignan on 25th April, 1948. That day he finishes 4th, leaving victory to the driver Maurice Trintignant.
