Le Tour de France cycliste

Hérault, 8th July 1962. The arrival of the Carcassonne-Montpellier stage of the Tour de France arouses great excitement. René Delon goes there to make a 9.5 mm film.

An extraordinary caravan preceded the cyclists, a characteristic of the Tour de France since the 1930s. The spectators see advertising vehicles pass by in original and unusual shapes. The 3M caravan appears, mounted on Citroën HY vans and carrying a giant roll of adhesive tape. Next come the Hoover hoovers mounted on Fiat Multipla chassis, a carrier pigeon from the workwear brand of the same name, the SEB pressure cooker and the Cinzano motorbikes piloted by acrobats.

Then the peloton, grouped together and led by André Foucher, passes in front of the camera. We are halfway up the Col de Peytafi. But it is Willy Vanitzen who finally wins this 15th stage of the Tour de France, ahead of Rudi Altig, the 1962 Tour de France champion.
