2024: Centenary of amateur cinema in Catalonia - 13/03/2024

A year of commemoration begins in Catalonia to celebrate the centenary of amateur cinema. The Filmoteca de Catalunya is celebrating with an anniversary programme that invites visitors to discover the way in which amateur cinema has conceived of moving images as a direct extension of individual or collective experience, without any commercial objective, and driven by the enthusiasm to express oneself freely through film.

This "Year of the Amateur" includes :

- An exhibition devoted to the amateur film movement: "Fora de casa. Cinema amateur a Catalunya 1924-1940...".

- An exhibition entitled "100 Anys de la Biblioteca del cinema", founded by Delmiro de Caralt and Pilar de Quadras.

- Cycle Péter Forgács 13/03/2024 - 28/03/2024  

- A website giving access to 114 films restored and digitised at the Centre for the Conservation and Restoration of Amateur Cinema.

It will be followed by educational workshops and an international seminar.

Curators of the Year of Amateur Cinema: Enrique Fibla Gutiérrez (professor at the UAB) and Ignasi Renau (archivist at the Filmoteca de Catalunya's Conservation and Restoration Centre).
